Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Arrives in the Diocese of Bridgeport!
Date: August 11 - August 16, 2025
Time: 9:00am (08/11) - 4:00pm (08/16)
Locations: St. Stephen Church Hall. 6948 Main St Trumbull, CT 06611
A powerful catechetical experience is coming to the Diocese of Bridgeport. This summer, the Institute for Catholic Formation will begin implementing the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS), a Montessori-based religious formation program that invites children into a deeper relationship with God through hands-on, contemplative learning.
Rooted in the educational principles of Maria Montessori and deeply grounded in Scripture and liturgy, CGS nurtures the innate spiritual capacity of children. In a specially prepared environment called an Atrium, children are free to encounter the Good Shepherd in their own personal and profound way, listening to His voice, reflecting on His love, and responding with wonder and joy.
We are hoping to have Atriums in many of our deaneries, making this transformative approach accessible across the diocese. This project begins with forming those who will guide our youngest faithful.
From August 11 to 16, the first diocesan formation will be held at St. Stephen Parish in Trumbull, CT, offering Level I, Part 1 of CGS. This 90-hour formation is designed for DREs and catechists, preparing them to create and lead an Atrium for children aged 3–6. Interested parents and catechists should click below to email the Institute for more information. If you are already formed in CGS, we encourage you to let us know.

If you would like to host an Atrium at your parish, consult with your pastor, who can contact the Institute team.
This isn’t just another program, it’s an invitation to slow down, to listen to the Holy Spirit, and to rediscover the beauty of our faith through the eyes of a child.
As we lay the foundation for this sacred work, the Diocese of Bridgeport invites all catechetical leaders to pray, participate, and prepare for a future where the Good Shepherd is known, loved, and followed by the youngest among us.
Our commitment to lifelong formation requires our leaders to reimagine how we form others in the faith and the opportunity for CGS is a great first step.
